“Hidden Homes” – Subdividing large dwellings to help homelessness

“Hidden homes” are new homes that we could potentially unlock by encouraging subdivision of three and four bedroom properties into smaller one and two bedroom units. “Hidden homes” aim is to tackle the ever increasing homelessness numbers by providing a home for life, in addition to eliminating use of expensive hotel rooms and temporary accommodation such as homelessness hubs. “Hidden homes” is focussed, in the first instance, on State and Local Authority owned vacant three and four bed dwellings. Whilst not the focus of this proposal, "Hidden homes" also has the potential also to connect with Private Homeowners who can also benefit from unlocking a proportion of their housing wealth, reducing household bills and rightsizing ‘in-situ’ without having to leave their current neighbourhood.
